AMP Supporting Conservation in the Community!

Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and the AMP Foundation have established a community conservation partnership to engage AMP staff and members of the community in supporting projects that enhance the Auckland region. The support provided is valuable in delivering community engagement and the supervision of on-ground conservation activities with volunteers in the Auckland region.
The AMP Foundation are focusing the staff effort at Mutukaroa Hamlin’s Hill, Sylvia Park, where CVNZ are working alongside the Friend’s of Mutukaroa Hamlin’s Hill, and rangers from Auckland Regional Council and Auckland City Council to create a new urban oasis. Up to 40% of the pasture will be reforested and walking tracks, picnic tables and visitor facilities will help create a conservation area for leisure. Unique to the Auckland City area will be a purpose built off-road cycling route around the new park.
The partnership will also support CVNZ volunteer teams supporting the Motutapu Restoration Trust who are working to restore forest to areas of Motutapu to become a sanctuary for native bird and reptile species.
CVNZ are also attracting and supervising teams at Oakley Creek, near Mt Albert, where the Friend’s of Oakley Creek are helping to restore this largely unmodified stretch of Oakley Creek, one of the remaining natural sections of stream in the Auckland City area.
